Taking a moment to pause and reflect in between therapy sessions

I've realised I've been a bit quiet on social media recently, so wanted to reassure you that I'm still here! I've had lots of enquiries and new clients booked in this month, so I thought it could be helpful to answer some of their questions about me and how I work.

I'm going to go into more detail about the specific approaches, interventions, tools and resources I like to use, so this post is going to be more of an overview of how I work as a self esteem therapist.

So what is self esteem therapy and how could it help you?

How I work

The first thing to say is that I don't have a one-size-fits-all approach. I use the free phone call to carefully listen to what you are going through and to let you know a bit about what I could offer in terms of therapy and for you to decide if you think we'd be a good fit for therapy.

It's also a chance to reflect if this is the right time for YOU to have therapy. I'm very aware that it's a significant commitment for your time and money. It's not just the sessions, but any resources such as journaling, books, podcasts etc to do in between our sessions.

If you choose to go ahead, I would then offer you an initial session - either in person, or via video or phone - where I'll ask more about your family and relationship history and what is affecting you in the present. We can then discuss the timings of sessions and whether you prefer to commit to a particular day and time each week or book directly via my booking calendar, if you need more flexibility.

We'll also discuss some therapeutic goals going forward, such as wanting to identify, understand and navigate any limiting beliefs you may have, which are keeping you feeling stuck.

Framework of self esteem therapy

As I said, this will be tailored to each of you according to your needs and what interests you; but my core work is to incorporate inner child and attachment work, as well as somatic exercises and interventions to help release stored emotions and unprocessed trauma.

This will always involve nervous system regulation and could also include specific exercises to activate the vagus nerve as well as EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) Tapping. (I'm writing more about each of these separately!).

How can it help me?

I don't have a 'typical' client - you are all uniquely wonderful in your own rights! But I would say that the most common reason that people get in touch with me is that they are disconnected from their Self. They may feel they have low self esteem or that they are unsure who they are or what their needs may be. Often they've spent a lifetime putting other people's needs first, sometimes without even being aware how much this has been to their detriment.

Sometimes they recognise that they've strayed too far from the path of their true or authentic self and want to go on a journey to discover who they are and find their voice. You can read more about therapy for self abandonment in this post.

Many of my clients are either in or recovering from controlling or narcissistic relationships, with a partner or family member, or ofter multiple people in different areas of their lives. Post separation abuse is another specialist area I can help with.

My commitment to you is that you come away from each session feeling a bit lighter, with an increased understanding of your own patterns and some tools and resources to help you feel empowered with the decisions and options you have in your life.

There is often a lot of laughter in our therapy sessions, often alongside the tears... which are just as likely to be from me as well as you! I feel profoundly lucky and fortunate to be able to work as a therapist and there is always reciprocal healing for me as well as - I hope - for you!

If you'd like to arrange a free phone call or want to drop me a message, please feel welcome to do so. I currently have some spaces in person on Tuesdays and Fridays, or online throughout the week.
